If you love fresh flowers but hate how fast they die, Flamingo Plants are the solution.
The Red, heart-shaped flowers are actually waxy leaves, which means this indoor plant stays bright and colorful for months, not days.
It’s a great way to keep color in your room year-round.

Botanical name: Anthurium

Flamingo Plants grow best in spaces with bright indirect light, where the sun is soft or diffused. They can adapt to medium light, though be careful to not overwater it, as the soil will take longer to dry with lesser light. Avoid placing it under direct midday sunlight (especially during the summer), since that will cause your Flamingo Plant to dry out and the leaf tips to brown. Never place it in a dark spot, since the soil will almost definitely take too long to dry out, which will cause your Flamingo Plant's roots to rot (a death sentence).
Medium light diagram

Let the top layer of soil dry out before watering

Every week, use your finger to check 1-2 inches into the soil:

  • If you feel ANY moisture, at all, wait longer before watering.
  • If the soil feels COMPLETELY DRY, then it’s time to water.

Note: the more light it gets, the more often it'll need to be checked & watered

Discard excess water

When watering, fully water the entire soil mixture. Then, allow all the excess water to drain out the bottom of the pot’s drainage holes. Discard that water.

FAQ

Flamingo Plants love bright, indirect light and thrive near large, sunny windows.Indoors, they need a similar setup to keep their glossy leaves and colourful flowers vibrant.

Best placement: Close to an east-facing window, or a few feet from a south or west-facing window with sheer curtains.

If the light is too low: Fewer flowers, slower growth, and darker, droopy leaves.

If the light is too strong: Direct UAE summer sun can scorch the leaves and cause fading of the flowers.
Water every 1–2 weeks, keeping the soil evenly moist but never soggy.

How to check: Press your finger into the top 3–4 cm of soil — if it feels dry, water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom.

Why this matters: Anthuriums have fine roots that need consistent moisture but suffer quickly from root rot if left in soggy soil.

Watering tip: When watering your plant, evenly water the entire soil mixture until you see water draining from the bottom of the nursery pot. After allowing all the excess water to drain out, discard that water.
Repot every 1–2 years, or when you see roots coming through the drainage holes. Whichever comes first.

Why not repot right away? Like most plants, Anthuriums need time to adjust to their new home and can go into “transit shock” if repotted too soon.

Best time to repot: October to May, when the plant is actively growing.
Yes! Flamingo Plants benefit from regular fertilizing. If you live in the UAE, fertilize once a month from October to May, when your Flamingo Plant is actively growing.

During the peak summer months (June–September), growth will slow due to extreme heat, so reduce or pause fertilizing if your plant isn’t actively growing. Over-fertilizing can stress the plant and lead to leaf burn.
Not recommended — Flamingo Plants are sensitive to the chloramine and high calcium content in UAE tap water. This can cause leaf tips to turn brown or flower edges to burn.

Better options: Filtered water or distilled water, especially if you notice leaf tip browning.

To distill water, boil in a kettle at 100 degrees celsius and allow the water to cool down to room temperature overnight.
Yes — with proper care, it can grow into a lush plant with more leaves and blooms year-round. Indoors, mature plants typically reach 40–60 cm tall.

Bloom cycle: Anthuriums can flower multiple times a year with the right care.
No — all parts of Flamingo Plants are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets.
Yellow leaves: Could be from overwatering or aging leaves naturally dying off.
Brown edges: Often from low humidity, poor water quality, or underwatering.
Green flowers: A sign the bloom is maturing — normal, but often means the plant needs more light to produce vibrant colours.

If you ever need some extra help caring for your Flamingo Plant, feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp or book a plant care call with us.
Yes — high humidity is ideal.
Why: As a tropical plant, Anthuriums evolved in humid rainforest air, and higher humidity keeps their leaves glossy and prevents brown tips.

Tip: Mist the leaves once a day to boost humidity and wipe leaves regularly to remove dust, which can block light absorption.
Yes — just keep it away from direct cold drafts from AC vents, which can dry out the leaves.
