An air purifier featured in NASA's Clean Air Study that's safe for pets, the Spider Plant is a popular choice for the UAE's apartments and offices.

The Spider Plant is a great low maintenance option that keeps both your air clean and your pets safe.
Known for its variegated green-and-white leaves and removing toxins from the air, this indoor plant can adapt to high and low light environments.

Also known as the airplane plant (Chlorophytum comosum). A pet-friendly spider plant for homes and offices in Dubai.

Size: 35cm tall.

Light: Bright, indirect light is best. It can adapt to medium light; water less often there. Keep it out of direct midday sun.
Water: Let the soil dry out between waterings. Check the soil every 1-2 weeks. In UAE homes with the AC on, check with your finger before watering.

Pets: pet-friendly, so it suits homes with cats and dogs.

The Spider Plant grows long, arching, striped leaves and, over time, small baby plants on trailing stems, which you can pot up to grow new plants.

Delivered across the UAE: we deliver in Dubai and across the UAE. Choose the Circle pot for a cement planter handmade in the UAE by Plntd, or keep the plant in its nursery pot.

Botanical name: Chlorophytum Comosum

Spider Plants grow best in spaces with bright indirect light, where the sun is soft or diffused. They can adapt to medium light, though be careful to not overwater it, as the soil will take longer to dry with lesser light. Avoid placing it under direct midday sunlight (especially during the summer), since that will cause your Spider Plant to dry out and the leaf tips to brown. Never place it in a dark spot, since the soil will almost definitely take too long to dry out, which will cause your Spider Plant's roots to rot (a death sentence).
Medium light diagram

Let the soil dry out between waterings

Every 1-2 weeks, stick your finger 50% into the soil:

  • If you feel ANY moisture, at all, wait longer before watering.
  • If the soil feels COMPLETELY DRY, then it’s time to water.

Note: the more light it gets, the more often it'll need to be checked & watered

Discard excess water

When watering, fully water the entire soil mixture. Then, allow all the excess water to drain out the bottom of the pot’s drainage holes. Discard that water.

FAQ

Caring for your Spider Plant
Spider Plants thrive in bright, indirect light and are very forgiving indoors. In nature they grow beneath taller plants, so they appreciate filtered sun.
Best placement: Near an east-facing window, or from a bright south/west window with sheer curtains.
If the light is too low: They’ll survive, but growth slows and variegation may fade
Water every 1–2 weeks, letting the top 3–5 cm of soil dry between waterings.

How to check: Once a week, insert your finger 3-5cm into the soil — if the top layer is dry, water your spider plant until excess water drains out.
Why this matters: Spider Plants like lightly moist, airy soil. Soggy soil leads to root rot; letting them bone-dry repeatedly can crisp tips.
Watering tip: When watering your plant, evenly water the entire soil mixture until you see water draining from the bottom of the nursery pot. After allowing all the excess water to drain out, discard that water.
Every 1–2 years, or when roots circle the pot or emerge from drainage holes. You can also repot your Spider Plant when offsets (baby “spiderettes”) crowd the surface. Whichever comes first.

Why not repot right away? All plants, including Spider Plants, go through a brief “transit shock” when moved to a new home. Repotting too soon adds extra stress, which can slow growth or cause leaf yellowing.
Best time to repot: October to May, when the plant is actively growing and can recover faster.
Bonus tip: You can trim and pot spiderettes to create new plants.
Yes! Spider Plants benefit from regular fertilizing. If you live in the UAE, fertilize once a month from October to May, when your Spider Plant is actively growing.

During the peak summer months (June–September), growth will slow due to extreme heat, so reduce or pause fertilizing if your plant isn’t actively growing. Over-fertilizing can stress the plant and lead to leaf burn.
No — Spider plants are sensitive to fluoride/mineral build-up and to chloramine present in UAE tap water, which can cause brown tips over time.

Better options: Filtered water or distilled water.
To distill water, boil in a kettle at 100 degrees celsius and allow the water to cool down to room temperature overnight.
Yes, Spider plants will grow steadily. Mature plants form fuller clumps and produce long arching stems with baby spiderettes you can repot.
Yes — Spider Plants are non toxic when ingested by cats and dogs.
Yellow leaves: Often a sign of overwatering or poor drainage.
Brown tips or edges: Often from tap-water minerals/fluoride, low humidity, or underwatering.
Faded variegation: Insufficient light — move to a brighter indirect spot.

If you ever need some extra help caring for your Spider Plant, feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp or book a plant care call with us.
Yes — while tolerant of normal indoor humidity, Spider plants prefer moderate humidity to keep their leaves healthy.

Tip: Mist the leaves once a day to boost humidity.
Yes — as long as it’s not placed directly under the AC vent where cold air blows constantly. Prolonged exposure to direct airflow can cause leaf edges to dry out prematurely.
Our priority is to get your houseplant to you as safely as possible and ensure that it flourishes when it gets there.

Your plant will arrive in its nursery pot, securely packaged to protect the leaves and prevent soil spillage.

Once received, place your plant in the spot you plan to keep it in and leave it there until it is time to repot, allowing it to acclimate to its new environment.

There are some exceptions to this approach, specifically with our range of micro succulents, that tend to acclimate just fine outside of their nursery pots. So, we've gone ahead and repotted those plants for you.
