Rattlesnake Plants (Calathea Lancifolia) are native to the tropical rainforest floors of Brazil. They get their name for the striking spotted pattern on its leaves. Its leaves have deep purple undersides, not uncommon in Calatheas. Itd leaves have ruffled/wavy edges not dissimilar to its cousin, the Furry Feather.
Like most other calatheas, they've evolved to grow under the dappled canopy of taller trees, and as Prayer Plants do, Rattlesnake Plants will fold up their leaves at night and unfurl them the morning to absorb light.
The shaded, moist environment of its native habitat give us a clue as to how to keep this plant most happy: maintain moist soil and a humid environment (something to combat with your AC), and bright indirect light (the more the better, but this plant will not do very well under any direct sunlight at all).

	Light: Lots of bright indirect The more light this plant gets, the more striking its leaves will grow to become. However, avoid more than 1-2 hours of direct sunlight a day as this will fade away its leave.
	Water: Every 1-2 weeks Rattlesnake Plants like their soil to stay moist (though never wet). To check if your Rattlesnake Plant is ready to be watered, use your finger to feel the TOP LAYER of the soil (as deep as your nail). If you feel ANY moisture, then wait longer! If that top layer feels completely dry, then it's time to rewater your plant: Slowly water the soil so that it's completely saturated - you'll know it's fully saturated when water drips out the drainage holes at the bottom of the nursery pot. The more light your Rattlesnake Plants gets, the more you'll need to water it. Similarly, the less light it gets, the less it will need. Note: When checking your soil for moisture, make sure to test different parts of the soil, in case you come across a wet pocket.
