The Money Plant, known for its heart-shaped, variegated leaves, is one of our most popular near-unkillable plants.
Not only is it easy to maintain, but versatile too. Like most vines, it can be trailed from a high shelf or trained to climb up a moss pole.

Botanical name: Epipremnum Aureum

Money Plants grow best in spaces with bright indirect light, where the sun is soft or diffused. They can adapt to medium light, though be careful to not overwater it, as the soil will take longer to dry with lesser light. Avoid placing it under direct midday sunlight (especially during the summer), since that will cause your Money Plant to dry out and the leaf tips to brown. Never place it in a dark spot, since the soil will almost definitely take too long to dry out, which will cause your Money Plant's roots to rot (a death sentence).

Let its soil dry out entirely before watering

Every 2-4 weeks, check as deeply into the soil as you can:

  • If you feel ANY moisture, at all, wait longer before watering.
  • If the soil feels COMPLETELY DRY, then it’s time to water.

Note: the more light it gets, the more often it'll need to be checked & watered.

Discard excess water

When watering, fully water the entire soil mixture. Then, allow all the excess water to drain out the bottom of the pot’s drainage holes. Discard that water.

FAQ

Money Plants thrive in bright, indirect light but are highly adaptable and can tolerate lower light levels.

Best placement: Close to an east or north-facing window, or a few feet from a south or west-facing window where sunlight is indirect.

If the light is too low: Causes slower growth and loss of variegation (yellow markings).

If the light is too strong: Direct UAE summer sun can scorch and bleach the leaves.
Water every 1–2 weeks, allowing the entire soil to dry out before watering again.

How to check: Insert your finger all the way down into the soil — if it feels dry, water thoroughly until excess water drains from the bottom of the nursery pot.

Why this matters: Money Plants store some water in their stems, so they can withstand occasional dryness, but sitting in soggy soil can lead to root rot.

Watering tip: When watering your plant, evenly water the entire soil mixture until you see water draining from the bottom of the nursery pot. After allowing all the excess water to drain out, discard that water.
Repot every 1–2 years or when roots start emerging from the drainage holes. Whichever comes first.

Why not repot right away? Plants experience a brief period of “transit shock” after moving into a new space. Repotting too soon can slow growth.

Best time to repot: October to May, when the plant is actively growing.
Yes! Money Plants benefit from regular fertilizing. If you live in the UAE, fertilize once a month from October to May, when your Money Plant is actively growing.

During the peak summer months (June–September), growth will slow due to extreme heat, so reduce or pause fertilizing if your plant isn’t actively growing. Over-fertilizing can stress the plant and lead to leaf burn.
Yes — Money Plants are fairly tolerant of UAE tap water and its chloramine content.

Better options: Filtered water or distilled water, especially if you notice leaf tip browning.

To distill water, boil in a kettle at 100 degrees celsius and allow the water to cool down to room temperature overnight.
Yes — they are fast growers and can trail or climb several metres with the right care. Indoors, they can be grown as hanging plants or trained up a moss pole for a vertical display.
No — Money Plants can cause irritation, drooling, and vomiting in cats and dogs if ingested. Keep them out of reach of pets.
Yellow leaves: Can be a sign of overwatering.
Brown tips: Often caused by low humidity or inconsistent watering.
Loss of variegation: Usually due to low light — move the plant to a brighter spot.

If you ever need some extra help caring for your Money Plant, feel free to send us a message on WhatsApp or book a plant care call with us.
Yes — Money Plants appreciate moderate humidity, which helps maintain vibrant foliage. While they tolerate normal indoor humidity in the UAE, they will grow faster and look lusher in slightly more humid conditions.

Tip: Mist the leaves once a day to boost humidity and wipe leaves regularly to remove dust, which can block light absorption.
Yes — just keep it away from direct cold drafts from AC vents, which can dry out the leaves and edges.
