The Money Tree is known for two things: It's braided trunk and connection to prosperity in Chinese culture. 
Its leaves grow similarly to a palm tree and trunk can store water, making it a more forgiving indoor plant than most other trees.

Botanical name: Pachira Aquatica

Money Trees grow best in spaces with bright indirect light, where the sun is soft or diffused. They can adapt to medium light, though be careful to not overwater it, as the soil will take longer to dry with lesser light. Avoid placing it under direct midday sunlight (especially during the summer), since that will cause your Money Tree to dry out and the leaf tips to brown. Never place it in a dark spot, since the soil will almost definitely take too long to dry out, which will cause your Money Tree's roots to rot (a death sentence).

Caring for your Money Tree
Money Trees thrive in bright, indirect light and can tolerate some direct morning sunlight.

Best placement: Close to an east-facing window, or a few feet from a south or west-facing window where sunlight is indirect.

If the light is too low: Leads to slow growth, yellowing leaves, and inconsistent foliage.

If the light is too strong: Direct UAE summer sun can scorch leaves and cause them to curl or develop brown edges.
Water every 1–2 weeks, allowing the top 3–5 cm of soil to dry out before watering again.

How to check: Insert your finger deep into the soil — if it’s still damp, wait a few more days before watering.

Why this matters: Money Tree roots need oxygen between waterings. Sitting in soggy soil can cause root rot, which Money Trees are sensitive to.

Watering tip: When watering your plant, evenly water the entire soil mixture until you see water draining from the bottom of the nursery pot. After allowing all the excess water to drain out, discard that water.
Repot every 2–3 years or when roots start emerging from the drainage holes. Whichever comes first.

Why not repot right away? Plants experience “transit shock” when adjusting to a new environment. Repotting too soon adds stress and may cause leaf drop.

Best time to repot: October to May, when the plant is actively growing.
Yes! Money Trees benefit from regular fertilizing. If you live in the UAE, fertilize once a month from October to May, when your Money Tree is actively growing.

During the peak summer months (June–September), growth will slow due to extreme heat, so reduce or pause fertilizing if your plant isn’t actively growing. Over-fertilizing can stress the plant and lead to leaf burn.
Yes, if there are no other options — Money Trees tolerate UAE tap water, though they prefer slightly filtered water to avoid mineral build-up over time.

Better options: Filtered water or distilled water, especially if you notice leaf tip browning.

To distill water, boil in a kettle at 100 degrees celsius and allow the water to cool down to room temperature overnight.
Yes — Money Trees can grow into small indoor trees over several years. Indoors, they typically reach 1.5–2 metres in height with proper care. Their growth is influenced by light levels, pot size, and pruning.
